Eh…I’m probably gonna get slammed for this, but as hard as I go for anti-racism, anti-appropriation and social justice, I don’t really see a problem with a white girl doing a cover of Bad Girls. Sorry.

I don’t know that this necessarily falls into any of those categories, but it begs the question of why. And it’s not as though this is a one-off thing, there have been a number of examples of slowed-down, acoustic covers of hip hop songs by white people & it really does cause one to wonder what the deal is. I don’t think it happens in the other direction nearly as frequently (hip hop performers covering Celine Dion, for example), so what’s the deal w/all these white kids taking a song by POC, removing the beat, slowing it way down, & singing it like a folksong?
