The Truth About Before and After Ads
VERY IMPORTANT VIDEO to watch!
All those diet ads that show ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures, most of them aren’t real. Notice how most of them have the disclaimer at the bottom of the screen ‘results not typical’? Pretty much anything is possible with good lighting and photoshop!
The next time you watch a diet ad, pay attention to how, in before shots (especially in diet ads!) the person is always dressed in something frumpy, in a defeated, unflattering pose, with a sad look on their face. While in the after, the person is wearing something stylish and fashionable, in a setting/background that really makes them pop, with a big ol’ smile on their face!
So what is it that really changed? Their body? Or EVERYTHING ELSE around them?
Question the media. It is DESIGNED to make you feel bad about yourself and go out and spend money. It is DESIGNED to make you consume. Media doesn’t care about your self-esteem. It cares about what’s in your wallet, and how to get what’s in your wallet into their wallet.
You are the only one who has authority over your self worth.
Love,
I love this video, mainly because it shows how important it is to remember that your body’s shape fluctuates, even on an hourly basis.
And seriously, fuck diet pills.
My boyfriend’s mom is friends with a woman who does these kinds of pictures pretty regularly. The only difference is that she does this over the course of a couple days instead of a few hours.
